Hi all,

I just want to remind everyone of a now-longstanding rule concerning talking OOP about things regarding your character: anything you say on the boards, on site, in your car, in your cabin, or in France can be taken IP by any SOLAR player who overhears it.  In effect, SOLAR will not protect anyone whose character gets screwed because they THEMSELVES couldn't keep their own secrets. This means that if you raided a cabin, robbed someone, or hid a magic item under that rock in the woods--keep quiet about it!

Obvious exceptions include when the player is talking to logistics, plot, other staff members, or when they are being cheesy and talking about who killed them, or when another player is the one telling the story OOP about them. I'm sure you can think of countless ambiguous situations, so just let the spirit of this rule and common sense be your guide and you'll be just fine.

On a related note, you should never talk about PvP that happened to you, regardless of context. PvP is the most important element of SOLAR and being part of it, aggressor or victim, is a privilege and should be protected.

To many this years-long "Don't talk about Fight Club" rule might seem counterintuitive, but you have to admit that the concept of saying things OOP-but-not-IP is itself counterintuitive and often damaging. No one should ever discuss sensitive IP events OOP for so many reasons, and it is no one else's responsibility to keep your character's secrets, experiences, and integrity intact just because you OOP cannot. Certainly, so many mysteries of SOLAR have been unnecessarily ruined because players unfairly burden those around them with in-game secrets, and then expect them to remember the difference 2, 6 or 36 months later.

Having said all this, the players who overheard it may personally choose not to take the information IP, but that is a courtesy they are extending. Also, I want to be clear that we all do tell stories and they are often a very enjoyable aspect of the game. So, if you just HAVE to say something, at least extract a "This is OOP, right?" agreement IN ADVANCE from everyone present before you begin.

Cheers,
Pontus

Further proof that senility has finally set in. The following awards are in Experience Points, not Gobs. Why did I say Gobs? Because I have contracted Maynarditis.

Hi, how ya doin? Good. Have a good event? Outstanding, glad to hear it. Want to help make sure we continue to have that level of fun and excitement and earn goblin  experience points for it? You do? I knew you would. This is important stuff, it's so important that Scott increased the value of this process. You say you want goblin experience points, you want them so badly that you make packets and tabards till your fingers bleed (which earn you Goblin Points that you can convert into experience point, because that's what these are, and not Goblin Points), but you can't type out a few paragraphs? Come on! You do more texting in a day than we're asking for. So, simple logic makes this the best choice, you help the game, you help yourself, you make me happy, you make Scott happy, and you make Elena happy. These are people that you want to see full of joy, right? Of course they are.

The guide to submitting Event Summaries can be found here, past the information on Character Histories:
http://solarinc.org/clanthiaforum/index.php?topic=200.0

--

EVENT SUMMARIES are now worth Character Level x 3 in Experience Points

ROLEPLAYING NOMINATION are now worth Character Level x 10 in Experience Points
In order to qualify for this experience reward, a player must submit a summary for another player, summarizing the actions or events of the person they are nominating, and why they feel this person is worth rewarding. This person should have made a significant impact on your character during the event, as well as helping others stay in play and act as their characters should.
(It is preferred that the people you nominate are people you do not associate with closely in play or out of play, but all nominations will be considered.)

SPOTLIGHT are now worth Character Level x 20 in Experience Points
There are some events where a single player’s actions are legendary—for good or ill.  This award is given to players whose actions as their character transcends everyday role-playing in such a way that their presence during an event changed the role-playing experience of those around them.  This is remarkably difficult to obtain, and keep in mind that although this award may go to those who are on their way to becoming the game’s greatest heroes and villains, all too often might it go to those who are recently obliterated.
(If you feel that someone in particular deserves this recognition, let us know!)

Please submit your nominations to solar.clanthia.archive@gmail.com
And put the real name and character name of the person you are nominating in the subject of the email with the date of the event!!

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

The Player that has the maximum amount of archive submissions at the end of the year (per year) will receive a build bonus. No more than 3 submissions per event (event summary and two roleplaying nominations) will count toward that total. Not all submissions will be counted if they are too short (less than 2-3 paragraphs). Did you miss the part that said "build bonus"?

Now, I'm sure you are far too busy to write 9 paragraphs a month just to earn extra build, I mean, who'd want that?

Well, what are you doing reading this? Get writing.

NOTE OF CLARIFICATION: The EPs go to the person receiving the reward, but the person writing a summary receives the EPs for their summary, and also are credited their submissions for roleplaying rewards towards the build bonus goal.

Bob writes a Spotlight and a Roleplaying Nomination, and an Event Summary. He's level 30.

He gets 90 EPs total, and 3 submission credits.

Race packets are inspirational tools that can be viewed by the player of each race (at logistics only).  Each race has a rich culture that can add so much to your role play with others and we want to make that available to you to help inspire you to go beyond being a human with funny colored skin.

The race packets are gathered information based on general stereotypes of each race, and although it is the "norm", it doesn't mean you have to play your character exactly as it is listed in each packet.
We do not want to stifle your creativity when it comes to playing the character you choose, though you will still be expected to follow the rules in the rule book (which is being updated for a few races for clarification).
Also, remember that if you do go too far against the grain, IP repercussions could follow.
i.e. George starts a gypsy that hates all gypsies. In his history, he wrote he killed his clan and betrays any gypsy he comes across.
As race marshal, I can allow him to play his character since he isn't going against the rules of the race (no necromancy, can't be a noble, can't be a knight), though he will be warned that bad things can happen to him because of this. IP, he is generally considered a disgrace to the gypsy culture and many other gypsies would rather see him dead than allow him to continue to hurt their people and give them a bad (even worse?) name.
This can apply to all races. Some races are very proud of their heritage and don't take kindly to those that spit on it (which, believe me, having that attitude even makes the game more interesting!).

While there are a lot of things that are up to the players, there are a few points that are absolutely not to be negotiated on - like if you find a sylvan throwing charms ("But mine doesn't care, he's a rebel!") or a stone elf telling blatant lies, a fairy juggling with cold wrought iron two handed swords, etc... there are some things that races just absolutely CAN'T do so please make sure you are following the rulebook rules for your race. Failing to do so can have your race pulled and your character will become human.

The race marshals are put in place to help you so please do not hesitate to contact them!

Race marshals are here for the following:

Answer race related questions for players
Offer make up tips
Ensure players are wearing proper make up for their race
Ensure players are following the rulebook rules for their race
Give approval for players to play the race if restricted
Set a cap for the more rare races
Offer RP guidance

Thanks everyone for playing SOLAR! I hope with these updates and additions, it will only become an even better LARP experience for all of you!

Officially, no, but any questions you need addressed can be sent to the new players committee at newplayers@solarinc.org.

No.  You need to figure out through inplay means how to make your own, or obtain one.

I've loved my time as race marshal for the Dark Fae and Gypsies, but with a promotion at work and a new house, I find myself having less and less opportunities to make it to events.  I can't justify being an absent RM, so I'll be stepping down with 2013.  Thanks for letting me have a small part in your stories  ^.^
